Which supplements are beneficial for health and have the best quality?

This is a valid question everyone should ask before purchasing and using any form of nutritional or sports supplements. Don’t fall for the marketing gimmick and the special price offers.
Check that the nutritional or sports supplement actually contains what the label says and most importantly make sure the supplement is certified and tested by any of these internationally recognised bodies-

  • Informed Sport
  • NSF
  • BSCG
  • LGC
  • Informed Choice
  • Cologne List

All of these scientifically test the supplements to meet high criteria for quality, health and no contamination. Testing done in HFL labs with Certificate of Analysis report for each individual product.
Before using any sports nutrition make sure you have the correct guidance from a qualified health practitioner and don't have any health issues

How do we know which sports nutrition products to use?

What's The Problem? Competition, Lack of knowledge, Fake/Couterfeit products

More competition between sports, boundaries being pushed and the use of supplementation has increased in recent years with the intention of improving physical performance, both for elite athletes and for sports persons. Unfortunately some of those taking supplements may be unknowingly ingesting substances such as stimulants and hormones, banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The consequences of a Positive drugs test can be severe, including suspension from sport for a number of years to lifetime bans for repeat offenders, not to mention possible health implications both short term and long term. In addition, the use of drugs in sport has unfortunately led to a number of medals being won unfairly, thereby decreasing the integrity of sporting competition. It is therefore the aim of WADA to bring consistency to anti-doping policies and regulations within sport across the world, enabling athletes to compete on a level playing field.

How Does This Happen?

How do banned substances find their way into Sports Nutrition products? The primary sources of contamination are raw materials and poor manufacturing practices. Many supplements are subcontracted to third party manufacturers, some of whom make a range of different products. Cross contamination can easily occur when traces of ingredients move between products being manufactured in the same facility. Also, many supplements use herbal ingredients which either have poor quality control or contain compounds that are naturally occurring but also prohibited in sport. Traces of banned substances can therefore end up in otherwise legitimate supplements. Since athletes are tested at levels as low as parts per billion, contamination can result in a positive drugs test which will have a significant and negative impact on their careers.

Difference Between Informed Sport Certified and Informed Choice certified Products

Research has shown that some supplement products have been found to be contaminated with low levels of substances that are prohibited by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and other sporting bodies. The Informed Sport programme aims to work closely with supplement manufacturers and suppliers by reviewing the quality systems they have in place at the manufacturing facility and by providing high quality analytical testing for products and ingredients to minimize the incidence of banned contaminants finding their way into sport. The programme also aim to provide athletes with an effective risk management service so that they can choose products that have undergone additional quality control testing as required in elite sport. It is a monitoring program that certifies that a supplement product and/or raw material that bears the Informed Choice logo has been ‘skip-lot’ tested (tested at least on a monthly basis) for banned substances by LGC’s world-class sports anti-doping lab.
